hello all you devilish poets and Lovers of Darkness, it’s time to come together – the live and the dead -- to brush those cobwebs away from your sleepy brain and join Twelve Poets in the Mouth of Hell, otherwise known as M’s Underworld Café on Elm Street-- this wednesday, may 31 at 7:00 pm, my little goblins. a special All Hallow’s Eve slam to come and hear, if you will, some of the scariest poets in town reading their favorite scariest stuff in their scariest costumes. (dead and unpublished poets will not be discriminated against.) why are we having this Completely Super-Scary slam? so that your toes will curl into infinity. . . your hair will go astral. . .and your tongue, be forever tortured by insidious elves in the basement. . . you have NEVER been this scared, my lost souls. . . never. . .and, not for the faint of heart, the winner will be buried alive by the audience following the slam. . . we are inviting all of ye faithful slam-goers because we, ye merry folks of Moonlarke, need lumber to finish the stage for our theatre here in ethel. so bring with ye many scary donations and pumpkins full o’ cash!! (for this night only, donations of garlic and Holy Water accepted.) put us in your wills! donate your organs . . .we’ll take it all, my generous little trolls. . .we must finish the stage in time for the spring performance of *The Two Noble Kinsmen*! see you there, my rotting corpses, in the pit of poetic horror that is M’s. . . if you come as you are, we’ll try not to be frightened! in the zombie spirit,
Clara

Where does the time go? Scrolling down the guestbook, I realize that the entries are over a year old. Wow! Where has the year gone? So....I am proposing that we archive all of the old messages and start with a blank guestbook. There are already archives of the guestbook entries prior to Sept 2000 at the following location . We'll just add another archive. Go back and look at the old entries, it's fun.

Hey, all, go out to the Spanish Moon Friday night and see some killer poets, representing the LSU academic bigwigs (Codrescu, Kamenetz) and the cool BR slam poets like Xero, Mona, Ray, Becky. In addition to great verse, the proceeds go to support the Battered Women's Shelter, so it's a good cause. I will, alas, be unable to make it because I am going to be out of town. Y'all have a great weekend, though. Get out to Ethel Saturday and help with the Moonlark Theater. Everyone have a great weekend. - Mike

what's tha deal? just checking on y'all folks, since I been MIA. As some of y'all might know, me and Knowledge host a poetry reading on Southern 's campus every Wednesday night from 7-9pm, so it'll be a minute before either one of us make it back to M's, just droppin' y'all a few lines, hopin' that your spirits are up. I should be there whenever there's a lapse in our schedule, because we're not allotted the space every single Wednesday. So with that said, keep slammin', SOMEBODY PLEASE BEAT XERO, don't forget about the ORAL CLIMAX, EVERY MONDAY AT THE BACKSTAGE, and I should see y'all in about a month or so. signing off: D. Brasco

Amen Brother Mike. Thank you to Miss M's Fine and Mellow Cafe' and Moonlark Productions for providing a forum for healing, so desperately needed in this time of sorrow. We shared poetry, thoughts, opinions and ideas in an effort to understand and deal with the horrors inflicted upon us. Thanks also to all the poets and poetry lovers who set aside their fears and concerns for safety to join us. It was very comforting to share feelings and keep company with the friends, that in recent years, have become so important to me. Thanks again,
R. C. Sanders

Great slam tonight. Thanks to all who came out. For those of you who didn't make it, we ran a quick poetry slam, then opened up the microphone to anyone who wanted to either read poetry or just share their feelings about the current situation. It was very cool. We had a wide range of speakers and viewpoints. Everyone was given complete respect and attention. Makes you remember the freedoms this country stands for. See y'all next Wednesday.

It's our emotions that make us human and our ability to overcome them that makes us civilized. Our tolerance that defines humanity and prudence of action that allows civility. It's the ability to communicate that resolves our disputes and binds us together. While words can't restore life or rebuild towers, they can bridge troubled waters and span voids left in their absence. Please join us this evening and witness for yourself, how civilization has evolved since it left the cradle.

I know of no fear greater than that I witnessed this morning. To see my own hidden rage, hatred and innate racist tendencies evoked by the cowardice of these acts, has scared me more than the desicable deeds themselves. I ask of my friends, please help me remain objective. God Bless America and all of us who love her!

hey, everyone. I just put up the official audition notice for Two Noble Kinsmen. It's on the Moonlark home page. I've been missing all of my poetry slam friends b/c I have been unable to make the last several, due to the play I'm doing with Baker Little Theater. (see Moonlark home page for details). Am missing all of you terribly, so please post some poetry (or stylized fantasies like that harley/gilligan's isle dude). Auditions next Thurs. nite 6 to 9 pm in Ethel for this year's Shakespeare project. Call-backs and first rehearsals begin the following week, Sept. 6th and 7th (also 6-9pm). Squirrel, if you want to do another kinda soul school that makes you cool crazy just do the audition thing. You have to be able to commit to a seven month project, one or two evenings a week (depending on the difficulty of your part and your life schedule). But I can't think of anyone I would rather have on the project with us--you da squirrel buddha. We gonna have some fun with this one. There are nearly thirty parts in the play itself and a dozen tech positions that anyone can be taught to perform. If you are interested call me at 225-634-7611 or e-mail at rlsibley@bellsouth.net. peace/love

Once again, sequined ebony lights up the Nationals stage as Miss Mona leads Thursday nights bout with best score. We're real proud of her here. Just as we in BR, Seattle LOVES Miss Becky. She not only got better scores than me, but also more hugs and applause than anyone in the room(i am SO jealous i could scream!). As expected, the white northern European males brought up the rear despite stong performances, with the bearded one turning in the best presentation I've ever seen him give. We all tried our best and made a good showing despite what the self proclaimed gods of poetry might think. The good news, we did not finish last and I'll have to confirm this, I beleive all of the teams we were up against went to the semi's but one and two are in the finals. Special thanks to Honarary team member Miss Nancy (Miss Becky's sister)for doing a great job with our on deck cards. She also got a taste of what it feels like to be booed, as she was cornered to judge one of the early bouts we were'nt in. Also big thanks to Young Tom (Miss Becky's nephew) who taped our teams performances. Yes there will be video of this train wreck available some time in the future. Every one here is in good spirits, enjoying poetry and the company of other poets, yet looking forward to getting home soon. WHO WON WEND. NIGHT? At least back home we know someone who WON! Love, RC

Did this board die? Did Bandini disappear in some kind of freak lyrical illusion accident? Did the Naked Poet find modesty or was Bunkie's nude beach closed down due to Mad Poets disease? Inquiring minds want to know! The poetry still flows though, tonight at Miss M's, one night only! Big benefit for the Baton Rouge Slam Team. Come out and support the financial misfits of performance art. At this moment, the Dog's travel arrangements consist of an airline ticket, twenty five dollars, six cans of Ole Roy and the hopes of finding a cardboard box with a warm sidewalk grate for boarding. I miss ya, though our aquaintance was brief. In addition "big ups" to Xero, Mona, and everybody i didn't mention, much love. I got a poetry night started in Monroe, louisiana. it is me and 4 of my friends (one of which is a poet also). because a name was requested of us, we call ourselves musing in one. can u believe, we read here?!?!? the first night there were 138 people in attendance--14 poets read. the second--157 with 16 reading. we slammed and everything $50/$25/$10 (1st/2nd/3rd) KEEP SHINING BECAUSE THE LIGHT TRAVELS!!!!! maybe someday in the near future, we can bring some of these poets there and vice versa, no?

Hey, all. I've put up a Winners page for the Online Poetry Contest and an Archive page which has all of the entries. You can get them both from the home page. I cannot overstate how difficult it was to try and determine winners from that excellent collection of poetry.....Now, I'm wondering what to do with the poetry submission form we used for the contest. I was thinking maybe clean out the contest entries (since they're archived on the archive page) and making it sort of a free-for-all poetry board. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to let you know that construction of the school is underway and everything is coming along. I got an 18-wheeler full of compost stuck in the field Wednesday morning---first -uckup so far but I'm sure there will be others. Anybody that wants to come out and share in the adventure is way welcome anyday. I could use any help you can offer (even advice). By the way, my neighbor came down with his big-old John Deere tractor and snatched the 18-wheeler out and I spent the rest of the day hauling dirt to fill the massive ruts. I thought about creating a series of small stream water gardens out of 'em but finally gave in and filled 'em. I'll keep you posted. peace.

Pleased to meet you… From the moment his lips touched my hand My heart dropped to my reproductive organs Causing a beating With a force like none other felt before Arabian eyes and firm body Well thought out works with A delicate brow And those lips Touching my hand Me wishing they would touch everything else One evening and one touch And I’m had He could be a terrorist for all I know But I just don’t care Could be a con artist For he surely would have me fooled With well spoken words And the touch of his lips His lips I wish I could fully define How full and plush and well defined And made for him to touch Delicately firmly wholly Me. This could be the case of Please to meet you inebriation That we all experience from time to time Though, I’m going to try persistently To see that that’s not so. The tragedy is the his name escapes It starts with a T And it’s Arabic But the actual name I can’t Remember So if anything I will have to see him To see what that name is and how it might look next to mine.

We lade our hearts in vessels of hope. Paper parasols in canvas canoes washed over torrents. Under ever changing shadows of uncertainty and watchful eye's of the will-o-the-wisp. Their roots spread wide not deep, seek knowledge in shallow waters of rivers edge and pass judgement. Whilst avant-garde explorers of expression cascade over falls. Words shattered and strewn across rocks below. Like tiles of a Scrabble board slammed to the floor in mid play. Just got my new Chris Chandler CD and am feeling inspired. WOOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the dust cleared, four diamonds of poetic discipline formed the foundation of a National caliber team that should kick ass in Seattle. Congratulations and best wishes to Xero, Mona, Becky and Chap. Baton Rouge's 2001 represenatives to the Big Show. Stellar performances were also turned in by DNA, Donnie and Miss Dorian. I’m falling into tomorrow was said while walked out the door. Stepping away, I remember when riding an elevator was amusing. Going down, stalling at twelve then creeping down to one, I step out to that place between what is real and what never seems to happen. Falling feet clamper the stillness, echoing my question of the gone. The tomorrows of my day are of useless words that found a shallow breath, And of the emotions simply left unsaid.

There she was, as I once knew, acting as she once did. Her veil of diminished knowing, for this moment, had been lifted. Together we sat, and her eyes were alive -she spoke with a sternness all her own. Did you know who I was when I came to visit? I asked her. She took my hand and reassured my soul –lifting a weight of selfish absence. Rising from the table, she walked away, sinking deeply back into her chair. The TV was on, but no one listened, a gusting breeze rippled the veil, As it fell across her face again. -a dream 2.4.01

Nicely done, Mike. The redecorating (or is it a complete renovation?) of the web site is smashing. I just wonder why there are no belly dancer images on the Pericles page? hmmmm????

bandini rules! Hey, all, I put up pictures from the production of "Pericles" this past spring. It's on the Moonlark Sampler http://www.moonlark.org/moonlark-sampler.html I also put some verbage about the play. A few of the thumbnails are still a little sloppy, and a couple of the links are ass-backward, but I'll have that fixed tonight. Peace out! Go see Xero's poetry slam at the Garage tonight. A little known fact...Andrew Lloyd Webber's original title for his religious musical was "Naked Poet, Superstar." The Naked Poet may roll into town for the slam to find out if it's true that the World's Most Eligible Non-Kennedy Batchelor, Ray Sibley, has tied the knot? Why is the Naked Poet always the last to know? How about a little wedding haiku... Lovely blushing bride / But Ray is no spring chicken / Hope they have kids soon

PICTURES...I've started to put pictures online. The first set is from "All in the Timing". The next sets will be more pictures from the Slam at M's, and some from the Providence Nat'l Slam. In the wings, we've piles of images from Pericles, Winters Tale, The Hypochondriac, and so on......The pics are in a section called "The Moonlark Sampler" (okay, so it's a working title). Go to the home page and follow the link. Hope you enjoy. - MM

the pics from All in the Timing are in my living room, sorted and ready to scan in. Unfortunately, I cratered my PC (blew a motherboard) and am waiting on a part to ship in from Taipei. I'm probably going to borrow a scanner and get them online over the weekend. Don't forget about the poetry stuff that runs from tonight through Sunday. Thursday - Poetry Circus @ Spanish Moon; Friday - Xero's Poetry Slam @ the Garage; Sunday - Robert Menuet and Katheryn Fortenberry's reading at the BR Gallery.

Now the past heat raises us to question some unseen fate that until this moment of Time's seemed somehow unimportant. You sit there in bemused wonderment of your charms and your acquisitions, your spirit and your force...our gentle union now no more than a pale expression you once imagined. And me, I sit in the fading hues of an overestimated passion that moved me to you, my only wonderment that I ever unleashed it on one who was dead.

There is no proof or mathematics. There is no truth, only tapered wills and the muted breaths that become merely our own frail tragedies. There is no immediate death, but only the wounded acre. There is only thought, only those high-spirited ghosts pushing the sands beyond the sea. There is no raging immortality or palpable divinity. Just simple little lives so very unaware of their simplicity. There is no fire, only a Fury of empty passivity in a leap for decadence. In that, we simply stand.

I'm looking forward to the slam tonight. Clara Connell is back in town and she is gonna do the sacrificial goat poem. She has agreed to do another performance of "Skeeter," one of the poems she took to the National Slam Championship last year as a member of the Louisiana Team. See you there at 7; it should be a hoot tonight. peace/love, Ray

Greetings from the Naked Poet. Naked Poet will be in town this week for 1) the Poetry Slam at M's Wednesday and 2) the Poetry Circus at Spanish Moon on Thursday. The Naked Poet is at a period of low artistic ebb and desparately needs some inspiration. Living in Bunkie the Naked Poet is often forced to write about grain silos and Weed-n-Feed. Let me tell you, my city-dwelling sisters and brothers, the Naked Poet is really tired of Weed-n-Feed. If it weren't for the sheep, the Naked Poet would go plumb silly, but that's another story...
