I was wondering...when you finish a play or film, do you say "That's a rap!" or "That's a wrap!"? Anyone know the correct usage? What's the etymology of this expression, anyway? Email or post here if you know.

Mona Webb is now the number one individual poet at the 2000 National Poetry Slam. She will be competing in the semi-final round tonight at 11:00pm (keep her in your thoughts). The rest of the BR team is finished competing. The team finished a respectable 38th, and will be there tonight cheering Mona on! Ray competed in the "Slammasters Slam" today and tore the house down. You may be able to see the results at http://www.npsy2k.com, and there's supposed to be a webcast. Look forward to seeing all of you soon. If you want to reach me via email, send it to cajunmikemike@netscape.net b/c I can't get Moonlark mail up here. Peace and blessings, Mike.

Hi all. Update from the National Slam! The Baton Rouge team finished 34th out of 56 in the first round. We had a really tough bout against two of the top teams at the Slam (Dallas & Ithaca). Mona Webb finished 2nd out of the 238 poets!!!!!! She was killer, as was the whole team. Xero had the amazing distinction of receiving two 10s and a 3 for the same poem ("Anti-bitch"). Apparently, he pushed somebody's button. Anyway, we are having a blast and representing well. Y'all have a wonderful week, and keep us in your thoughts tonight as we perform in round two. Tonight we pull out all the stops. Peace and love from Mike, Ray, Xero, Mona, RC, and Cheri.

The team leaves for Rhode Island this afternoon. We will make you proud we hope. We also put up some more pictures of the slam team on the site. Check 'em out. Don't forget to come welcome us back and hear the stories on August 16th at M's (7pm). The San Jose slam team will be our guests. Turn out and lets show 'em a good time. Peace/love, Spread the WORD, Ray

Hope to see everyone at the benefit slam Saturday Night at M'S FINE AND MELLOW CAFE! Does anyone know any of the mayoral candidates well enough to invite them. Tell them they can get Mike Melancon's vote by having the moxie to show up at a poetry slam. If they bring a poem we might even let them read it! also, see the Annoucements section about the San Jose poetry slam team who will be coming to Baton Rouge to read on the 16th of August. I saw the SJ team last year in Chicago and they rocked. "What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow Out of this stony rubbish? Son of man, you cannot say, or guess, for you know only A heap of broken images..." TSE

I had a blast at the Slam last night. Mike Melancon always adds a special flavor to the Slam every time he reads and he is a fun MC. Put a poem in your pocket. The Grand Slam should be awesome this Saturday; I can't wait. We've got an awesome line-up (check the web page to see who's reading). Hope to see everyone there. peace/love, Ray
